So much for that idea

Well, we were supposed to be on our way to Orlando but we never got there. After we got off of work, today was mired by setbacks and ill timing. Besides leaving 90 minutes later than scheduled — we suck at time management — a host of problems came our way. The biggest setback in Boca was the fact that the gas station where we were trying to fill up lost power as soon as we got there however, we didn’t have enough in the tank to get anywhere so we had to wait. Thankfully, it didn’t take long but took long enough for me to scarf down my bagel and chug some coffee as I was expecting a long night ahead of me.
After about 30 minutes, we were greeted by a sign on the turnpike stating EXIT CLOSED TURNPIKE/95 AT JUPITER/INDIANTWN although I do not know where in central Florida Indiantwin is, I made the joke anyway. Well, this was a bad omen from the start. We pulled up to the Jupiter exit and traffic started slowing down immensely, with being mostly stopped. The next 75 or so minutes was spent moving an entire exit — roughly about 2 miles — and watching aggressive drivers vie for the Biggest Asshole In Florida award and some guy with a handicapped sticker in his Lexus SUV barely edged out some rude Italian guy who almost hit us three times while yelling at the SUV guy and scaring the hell out of his kids. I felt sorry for them because they had to live with someone that rude everyday. Since the Turnpike was at a standstill in both directions aside from random cars u-turning, as was I-95, I wondered what was going on so I rang my dad and he started researching because I thought it was very out of place to see two State Trooper APC units and an armored SWAT truck just drive by. Turns out a href=”http://www.wptv.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=54c0459c-de99-4e2d-8337-7a2ad5c98945″ target=”_blank”>some ass pulled a shotgun from his trunk and hid in the woods between I-95 and the Turnpike around Jupiter since they both follow the same path for about 8 miles. It’s not everyday you see Florida State Trooper APCs rolling around but it was damned cool! Coolest part of the day so far.
However, at this point it was nearing 7PM and that’s what time the show started so we drove on to the next exit for a bathroom break. From there, we decided that things had turned out pretty crappy and that we should probably go home given some quick realistic analysis we did. I wanted to see Arch Enemy quite badly in order to hear their new material for the CD that is being released next week but I also didn’t want to drive to Orlando and spend less than 2 hours at the club only to drive home afterwards. It’s utterly BORING driving in central Florida at night, let alone around 2AM when we would have been driving back.
We missed the show and are out $65 for the tickets because of some gun happy felon, which really sucks, but at least we’re home and ready to sleep.
