One fine night – Photo of the Day #75

One fine night

This is my first successful capture of the moon that I’ve ever gotten with my D90. It’s also the first picture I’ve ever really had to post process. I changed the tone curve to help bring out more of the shadows naturally apparent on the Moon but were still a bit blown out by the light from the Sun. I’m so pleased I finally got one of these, I’ve been trying for months but the Moon was extra bright tonight with helped suppress light pollution.

  1. Nicely done! I have yet to get a shot of the moon with my 55-200mm VR lens. Though I have got a really good close up shot with my Sony Cybershot superzoom before, but it doesn’t compare with the quality if a DSLR. It’s been too cold here to get a good shot of the moon, however, this weekend is suppose to very warm and very clear out, it might be the perfect opportunity.

Second, did you use the Wireless Remote for this?

  2. Thank you :) . It wad chilly last night as well but not too unbearable. I didn’t even think to use the 55-200 I have, I forgot I even had one. Once I dialed in the shutter speed, this was a snap to get since I could make use of the Moon 11 rule.

Nope, no remote, didn’t need one at this shutter speed. I had the zoom dialed to infinity focus and snapped away.
