A weekend of reading and a boring football game

Since gaining access to FAU’s electronic journals through EZproxy, I’ve been reading mostly non-stop in order to get my paper for tomorrow done and finalized. All that’s left are minor edits and a quick proofreading by my girlfriend before I head off to school. Unfortunately, this also means that I’ve now got to read an entire Clifford Geertz book and write two papers for next Monday. Just another week for a budding scientist it seems. I’m also falling behind on reading SEED and a few newspapers but that’ll be sorted once I’m done with this litany of papers. I should also be receiving my first volume of meatpaper within the next week or so and I’m very excited about it. I’ve been reading articles online from the magazine and they’re quite thought provoking about meat. Given that I’m cooking more and more these days, something like meatpaper gives new insight into what I’m putting on our plates. Speaking of cooking, I’ve now lost another 3lbs and am now down to roughly 196lbs, give or take a tad for water weight.

Tonight we, like millions of other Americans, watched the Super Bowl. I’m sure I’m not in the minority to say it was dreadfully boring until the last 10 or so minutes of the game itself. After the opening barrage of scoring in the first quarter, you’d think the game was a badly directed simulation of how football games play out. I don’t watch much pro ball but comparing this year’s Super Bowl to last year’s, number 41 was much more exciting to watch. Luckily, I was in good company attending a party of friends at my best friend’s house, topped off with a veritable feast from his mother. Not to mention the never-ending flow of cold beer and water. Out of the younger crowd of 8, three of us only watched the game because we were somewhat forced to — it was a Super Bowl party after all — but also because we just wanted to see the ads. Wave after wave of Budweiser commercial came expectedly and the ads shown during half time and the opening minutes of the third quarter were just dreadful. We were treated to local commercials for a few car dealers and some…thing to do with old people and dating or them falling down or something. I didn’t bother paying attention, I was grabbing beers. I’m not sure if anyone else caught them either. Overall, I found the game itself entirely boring, once again strengthening my view that watching professional football is a waste of time and college football should be played year-round so I can watch players that want to play. My dad caught only the interesting parts of the game: the scoring that end capped the game itself. Lucky for him.

As it’s nearing 2AM, I’m going to pop in a movie and get some rest for another day of fun.
